So I AM from a farmer background!!!! Apparently, my mom's dad's family were farmers in Shaoxing, which is south of Shanghai...and that's where I get my being uber tan genes from! I have always wondered....
....which leads me to the casual wondering of how micro-evolution works in skin tones. Basically, if being tan is simply the result of a life in the sun, and Darwin said that that kind of stuff doesn't get passed down (like, the baby won't be born tan), then how DID it get passed down?
Does that make sense? (Because it DOES get passed down...because for some reason, I tan much faster than the average Asian. That counts as genetics, right?)
Darwin hypothesized survival of the fittest, but how does that apply to skin tone? Do people who work in the sun all day and are able to tan more likely to survive than people who do the same but don't tan as well? Is there a social aspect here? Did people want to marry other people of the same skin tone? So as people got more tan, they only wanted to marry tan people? Or perhaps the less tan people refused to marry more tan people, so the tan people had to marry tan people?
What?
But then how did getting tan quickly pass down? Ehhhh?
ANYWAY. I'm just excited to know more of my family history. =]
