I think

The older I get, the more unafraid I become to stand my ground on controversial issues, such as premarital sex. This is somewhat surprising. But good. I guess with anyone who is younger and immature (as I once was and still am), you get scared of what other people will think of you. You just want to fit in and fly under the radar as much as is possible. But now I find that it's almost no big deal, even when surrounded by people giving out the ages at which they first lost their virginity (in the teens). "No, I don't subscribe to premarital sex, and don't pressure other people to do it if that's not what they want." It surprised me how easy it was to state my view and to also defend someone else (without getting defensive, which was another pleasant surprise) from pressure to get laid. And I think that the older and more mature other people get, the more they respect your stance on things like this, especially if you're confident in that stance. Anyway. I guess this is one of the nicer things about getting older—you just stop getting scared about what people think of you :).
