Wow, so I'm continuing my reading through I Kissed Dating Goodbye, and I must say, I haven't read a book that has challenged me so much in a very long time! (The last one being The Purpose-Driven Life. And not counting the Bible.) It's so good! And completely eye-opening. Yet I also believe God placed it into my life specifically at this time, and that He has opened my mind so that I'm really absorbing and understanding the message. It's the first time that I've actually seen and understood my singleness as a gift. In the past, I'd hear this, and my mind would just be like, whatever, I've heard this a lot yeah yeah yeah. But this book has really made me think about the definition of the word "gift." Singleness is a gift. God is giving me a gift right now. This is so crazy!!! Anyway, it's hard to believe I haven't seen these things this way before (that was so...descriptive), but putting my future worries about marriage and the right guy and all that stuff into His hands means one less thing (actually many things) for me to worry about! It's ridiculous how great that is.
Joshua Harris asks, "Do you really trust Him?" I admit that I still struggle with this concerning relationships. No, I do not fully trust God, and it's to my shame and sorrow that I don't. It's one thing that I will be keeping in mind and praying about--until I fully trust Him in this area, and while I fully trust Him in this area (wouldn't help to attain a goal and then lose it again). This post is to keep me accountable as much as anything.
So yeah, again, I highly recommend this to those of you who haven't read it yet! ;)
Yeah we have a lot of flexibility in ministry at our age, and not having a family to be responsible for plays a big part in that.
ReplyDeleteFrom 1 Cor. 7:
An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife—and his interests are divided.
You should read Boundaries in Dating by Townsend. They disagree with Harris.
