This is a great article

Man, usually when I read an article written by somebody Christian, I'm subconsciously/consciously poking holes or looking for counterarguments. I'm not easily swayed into completely agreeing with someone just because everyone else is, or because he or she seems spiritually mature or is seen as a super-Christian. And I say all this to preface the article that I'm posting the link to below, because when I read it, I was struck by it. But I didn't repost or think about it further because I don't like to repost things unless I find them amusing or really on point. However, this article has of its own accord (or God's will) been popping up in my head at random times for this past week, which is why I am reposting it, because I now think that it is exactly on point (after having a week to not think about it, but still thinking about it—without any red warning flags/thoughts—if that makes sense).

So, for your reading pleasure: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/scott-dannemiller/christians-should-stop-saying_b_4868963.html

The worthwhile challenge now is to figure out ways to replace "I've been really blessed because...."

I guess I did think about this quite a bit because I've even argued to myself "Does it really matter if I phrase it one way or another? It's just semantics! I'm saying the same thing!" But I think it does matter, because what we say and how we say it ultimately reflects what we believe about God and His world order (and His world order from our perspective), because from His perspective (if I may be so bold), it's not the same thing. And similarly, but on the flipside, I think it extremely worthwhile to figure out when exactly we are "blessed," and to be able to verbalize that and explain it not only to ourselves, but also to others. When we can truly explain why we are blessed based on the Beatitudes, that's a really beautiful depiction of the gospel, and something very different from what most people hear from Christians, I think. (So this article is great for another reason because it presents a different but potentially very effective way to evangelize. I mean, that idea isn't new, but I don't hear a lot of people evangelizing through the Beatitudes, although that is what Jesus did...hmm.)

Anyway. Food for thought.
