Playa Tamarindo!

So Friday morning, our whole group took a Latin dance class. We learned some salsa and merengue--it was suuuuper fun! Then we left for Playa Tamarindo in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica (northwest). It was a 4-hour bus ride, and I am really glad they gave us motion sickness meds!

Playa Tamarindo was gorgeous, of course. I woke up way early Saturday morning to go surfing at 8am--IT WAS AWESOME! I mean, I barely stood up on the board once, but it was still a great experience. I managed to get a pretty bruise on my thigh, and I also bit through my bottom lip this one time that I hit my chin on the board as I was wiping out (but it didn't hurt at all! And it seems like it already healed). For the rest of the day, I just chilled. I took another Latin dance class that was gratis, offered by the hotel. Sunday morning, I woke up way early again to go on a mangrove boat tour. Mangroves apparently only grow in brackish water (salt and fresh water mix), so that's pretty rare (maybe?). It was fun though, and very beautiful. We also got to see some baby crocodiles and howler monkeys! Pictures will be up on Facebook soon =].

After that, we headed back to San José.

And today I had Grammar, which I actually really, really enjoy. The teacher is one of those amazing people that truly know how to teach a language (with pictures, photos, individualized attention, animated motion, etc.). I can't, quite sadly, say the same for the other class. Ah well. 1 out of 2 is pretty good. It was also pouring (again) while we had class, so we could barely hear our professor sometimes (just like last Wednesday, haha). Actually, before it was pouring, it was hailing (tiny bits of ice!). Crazy!

Yep. Oh yeah, jugo de carambola (or starfruit juice) is now my new favorite refresco. It is SO GOOD. My host mom puts a bunch of starfruit in a blender, drains the juice out, and adds some for-reals cane sugar. It's delicious.

Anyway, dinner is almost ready (we have avocado at almost every dinner....it's so common here! Excellent stuff), so I'm going to go. Hasta luego!
